Let Me Guard the Words of Your Mouth

I know it’s easy to become entangled in the gossip game. It is human nature to engage in stories and accentuate the troubles and weaknesses of other people. Everyone loves to talk and be the focus of the narrative. However, I want you to understand when you speak negatively by putting others down it is to make you feel better about yourself and to be in control of the dialogue.

When you talk about others, it helps you hide and deny the inadequacies you have in your life. Do your best to let me guard the words of your mouth. (Listen for My Voice)

It is natural to talk and discuss your side of the story when people hurt your feelings and attack your character. Gossip is a tempting way of putting other people down and provides a way to get even so everyone will think negative thoughts about them. When they are out of your presence, you can paint any scenario you want others to believe about them.

As you wouldn’t do physical harm to anyone, do your best not to cause emotional damage to them either. Instead of hurting loved ones and family because of your pain I encourage you to control your tongue and guard the words you speak. When you safeguard your words, you are protecting your heart from speaking evil about others. Understand those who gossip about a friend to you will also tell enticing stories about you to their acquaintances.

Don’t listen to gossip about someone who is not present in the conversation. I encourage you not to participate and destroy the character of another person by the words you speak or by giving silent assent to the damning words spoken about them in their life. If you cannot provide a good report about them, change the discussion and move on to another subject altogether. Do your best not to let any words define you or anyone else in a negative way. Let me guard the words of your mouth and bless your life.
