We now realize that sex if primarily an interpersonal team process; like any other team process, you win or lose as a team.  This is not to negate that each partner is responsible for her/his desire, arousal, and orgasm, or that the same sexual encounter is often motivated and experienced in a different manner.  Ultimately, the motivation for couple sexuality is to energize your bond and reinforce feelings of desire and desirability.
Sex is truly a team sport and the ultimate measure of satisfaction is not orgasm but, rather, feeling energized and bonded as a couple.  You need each other as intimate and erotic friends.
In satisfying relationships, your partner is more than just a sexual friend; he/she is your intimate friend.
