Ali Family Autism Truths #11 – Life Gets In the Way

There is a lot going on today, and sometimes the business of living gets in the way of documenting that living. So the truth for today is this: Sometimes we make decisions regarding D and his autism that are not ones we want to make. But he is not the only one in our family. There is 11-year-old A, seven-year-old H, their Baba and me. There are obligations and needs and wants for every family member. And, like all parents of multiple children, we have to choose between our kids at certain times for a variety of reasons.

Sometimes it’s no big deal. Other times it’s monumental in a way that is indescribable. And, if I put it into words, it wouldn’t do justice to what I am feeling and what we all must do to feel all right with our choices.

Others could say time – you chose to have three kids. Yes. Yes we did, with God’s good grace. And that has been the best thing of all, despite all the directions we are pulled in and all the sacrifices each and every one of us must make. It is worth it. And, I believe A, H, D and their Baba would agree with me that this is worth it. It is worth it today, even as difficult as it has been, because as I wrote before, by God we are going to choose to be happy. We are going to try, because there other way.

So here’s wishing you a beautiful day. Our autism truths are never easy, but they are ours to learn from and ours to own. And I pray that we will do as best as we can by D, A and H.
