Intention

Intention April 30, 2012

Is it really Monday?  This weekend was a whirlwind of activity, but still I ended up making it to Halaka.  I’m often conflicted on Sunday mornings because I’ve been going for almost 4 or 5 years now…and I’m not sure that I get as much out of it as the rest of the women.  Auntie Fay is an amazing teacher, and she works so hard at leading our discussions and lessons, but I hate to leave my people here, I love spending time with them, and I always weigh the net worth of leaving them to do something else.  Is it really worth the time away?

I most often end up going though, because in the end I’m not going to these meetings for myself, I’m going so that I understand the religion my children are learning about, and following.  I’m going so that when Pea or Kate have a question about the legality of nail polish as it relates to Wudu, I know the answer.  I’m going so that when someone tells my ladies something they say is Hadith when it is actually culturally based. I know the difference without having to stop and ask Khaled. I’m going so that I can help Mr. Fox when something doesn’t make sense to him.  So I know the why, what for and how come?

Yesterday’s talk was about intention.  If you intend your life to be in service to God, if you intend to live your life in the manner that reflects the purpose that God has intended for you, if you work every day with the intent to care for the family that God has allowed you to have, if you care for your children in a way that honors God’s gift to you…

This is something I sometimes struggle with in my day to day life.  I don’t always see the bigger picture, and I get caught up in the minutia of my to do list.  What is your intention?

Happy Monday!
