Making Breakfast

Making Breakfast July 30, 2013

Last week, Khaled came home from work with two recipes on a sheet of paper.  This is not new because they often watch The Chew between cases and he often comes home, inspired to try a new recipe, with bags of ingredients.  I don’t usually complain unless I’ve already got dinner situated, but then we put the ingredients away until we run out of leftovers.

So, on the sheet of paper was a recipe for Crock Pot Oatmeal.  I’ve googled around for a detailed recipe and the only thing I could come close to what he has written was over here on The Yummy Life.  Here is our recipe:

2 sliced apples

1/4 C brown sugar

1tsp cinnamon

pinch of salt

put in the bottom of the crockpot

2 C oatmeal

2 C milk

2 C water

Do Not Stir

Cook overnight 8-9 hours on low.

Now I love Oatmeal.  I really do.  And I like mine a little on the dry side.  There were a few tweeks I’d make for this recipe next time.

1. I’d spray/butter the crock. (There was stickiness on the sides and the pan is still soaking.)

2. I’d stir the ingredients.

3. I’d add more sugar. (This wasn’t that sweet.)

4. I’d also add more cinnamon and some nutmeg.

5. I’d set the timer to stop cooking at 7 hours.  I think that would be enough time.

That morning, the house smelled so good.  It just so happened that yesterday, the high was 70. No, that’s not cold, but it is chilly for July. Perfect Oatmeal weather.  We put the leftovers in the fridge, and this morning I’m sitting here enjoying it once again while I make my Brass Crecent nominations.

Now I’m off to finish my desk makeover.  I’ve been taking photos and I can’t wait to show you what I’ve done.  I hope it looks as good in real life as it does in my head.  Here is the before:
