Last Sunday, we decided to head out in search for some Eid clothing. The game plan consisted of hitting our go-to shop in Dearborn, The HijaBee, and then if we couldn’t find what we needed, to go mall shopping for hijab friendly clothing and then get new hijabs to match. In 3 short hours, we had a dozen new hijabs and two Eid abayas. Huzzah! First stop: The HijaBee. While they didn’t have abayas in the sizes that we needed,... Read more

This year, we attended two community iftars during Ramadan.  Both were at the same masjid that we attend on a regular basis, the same place where my children study Quran and we frequent on different times during the year for lectures that are interesting and applicable to our lives. The first time we went this year, it was a positive experience.  We had a nice time, our dessert was well received and I felt like I had finally made some... Read more

I stink at finding Eid gifts early.  Every year I keep saying to myself (and to Khaled) “I need to collect gifts for Eid.”  This conversation begins well before Ramadan starts…and now it is 6 days until Eid and I have nothing for Mr. Fox, one item for Kate and a handful of items for Pea.  We wanted to drive out to Bridgeview this month and buy Abayas for them at Al Omari because we had such a wonderful experience... Read more

Last week, Khaled came home from work with two recipes on a sheet of paper.  This is not new because they often watch The Chew between cases and he often comes home, inspired to try a new recipe, with bags of ingredients.  I don’t usually complain unless I’ve already got dinner situated, but then we put the ingredients away until we run out of leftovers. So, on the sheet of paper was a recipe for Crock Pot Oatmeal.  I’ve googled... Read more

If you’ve been playing along, you know that at the beginning of Ramadan, Woodturtle and I teamed up and hosted a giveaway.  She shared a glowing review of The Wudu Cling, and I sponsored two winners PLUS a generous 20% off coupon to anything in my store.  One smart cookie took advantage of that offer. Yesterday, the winners were announced, and today I mailed out two envelopes to the winners.  One lucky follower is from the website QA The World,... Read more

Sometimes the call to prayer is ever so beautiful. Like when it is done by someone who can carry a tune, or when a very young, enthusiastic boy puts his whole heart into the call. I hope one day I can witness this call in person. It is amazing in the recording and will be more so in person. I also love that the translation is shown here, making it easier to share with English speakers.  I also love the introduction... Read more

Yes, I know it is Friday already…the second Friday of Ramadan, but this post has been cooking in my head since Tuesday. So, even though it is Friday, I’m posting it! A week ago, I decided that I had a severe craving for this dessert/side dish from my childhood. I didn’t know what it was called or all of the ingredients, but I knew I wanted to make it. Sure, I could have googled the list of ingredients and found... Read more

Today, Kate and I were out on a mission to find some lanterns to augment our steadily growing Ramadan decoration collection.  We stopped at a Joann Fabric store.  Shortly after entering the store, we found some beautiful fabric covered in crescents and stars.  Of course I had to get it….and all the coordinating fabrics that would accent the project that was forming in my mind. We made several laps around the store before stopping at the cutting counter.  This is... Read more
