new drawing “Dash”

new drawing “Dash” December 13, 2011

One of my students, Dash Delehee Dondokov from Mongolia, told the class a story about when he was 12 years old. He had just learned to ride a horse. He rode his horse far out into the grass steppes and got lost. He said he was lost in a sea of grass. He tried to start a fire. It didn’t work. Finally he gave up and sat on the horse. Eventually the horse started walking and took him home.

When he told us the story the class was spellbound. When he finished we all clapped. But when he was telling the story this image was so vivid in my mind. Such a powerful vision needs to be drawn.

I gave Dash a copy of the drawing today. I told him that the blue represents the endless sky. All the lines are connected, signifying that he and the earth, the grass, the horse, the sky and the sun are all One. The color of the sun, Dash, the horse and grass all represent the color of fire. He is the fire. And I told him that he would sometimes get lost but eventually would always find his way home.

The overpowering sense of Oneness consumed me like fire.

We are all One. It is a present reality. It is a truth that can’t be arrived at intellectually. It is something that is finally known, wrapped in compassion and signified by relationship. In this understanding is great peace and joy.

This drawing is unusual for me because it is so colorful. But… like I like to say… this is what I saw so this is what I draw.
