The cross is a symbol of the necessity of death. When the bible says that Jesus died, it was all of him who died, not just the weaker parts. All. There wasn’t a golden nugget of goodness that was protected and preserved from death. Even his righteousness died. Death is total. This means that we are all invited to this total denial of self. But since this cartoon is central to what I think is important I thought maybe I would say a few words. The thought is not the thing. The word is not the thing. The concept is not the thing. Even though I consider this image tastefully PG, I have made available a version of the fine art print with a dress on the young woman, courtesy Photoshop. Again, another image from the depths of my unconscious emerges. Obviously there is something going on with a deep urge to be free and to live... Read more

I’m very happy to announce the adoption of the original drawing of this piece, “Solitude”. The drawing has been carefully shipped to a collector in Florida. The collector also reads nakedpastor. For an artist, even though we sometimes have difficulty parting with our creations, this is almost always a happy event. I’m calling her Sophia. Ink and graphite on Arches watercolor paper, 8″x10″ (20cm x 25cm). You can buy a fine art print or note-cards of it HERE. Read more
