by Thomas Burell
I don’t agree with all of it, but it is thought-provoking. It forces the reader to consider how internalized negative images and stereotypes have wreaked havoc on our collective self-esteem and relationships. Becoming aware of how we’ve been indoctrinated (to uphold white supremacy), how this indoctrination is now self-perpetuating and steps that should be taken to un-learn these destructive beliefs, attitudes and behaviors makes for a very compelling argument. In my opinion, it speaks to why Elijah Muhammad’s message to the Black Man and Woman resonated so deeply and forcefully. It directly challenged such a firmly held cognitive schema of Black worthlessness.
