Black Muslims, Honoring Juneteenth

Black Muslims, Honoring Juneteenth June 19, 2020

Omera Productions

Juneteenth is a day commemorating the end of slavery for our ancestors in the USA. It reminds of the slow progress we’ve made thus far, and long unrelenting battle to reach our destination for equality. We continue to struggle for equality with our salaries at work, equality with the justice system, equality with healthcare, equality with housing & banking, equality with education, equality with service, overall equality to live and survive like everyone else in this country.

Blacks have never sought revenge just equality. One has to truly reflect on the current events of the senseless killings of Blacks and the avoidance of reparations to Blacks just to name a few and realize while we celebrate the freedom of our ancestors with Juneteenth, we are not truly free, we’re just no enslaved. The inequality treatment is no different for Blacks within the Muslim community when interacting with some Muslims of Arab descent. Until there is equality for Blacks, we will never be free. So, we can celebrate Juneteenth to acknowledge how far we have come but know we still have a long way to go.
