4. Don’t just teach truth; teach the Bible. If you attend a traditional church, you know what you’re going to get during the sermon: the Bible. Now, it may be taught in a manner that is over your head or puts you to sleep, but you know you’re going to be taught the Bible. In a modern church, unfortunately, that’s not a given. Some modern church services are nothing more than pep rallies, trying to get the congregants hyped up into an emotional state of bliss. Some modern preachers shy away from controversial biblical subjects because they don’t want to kill the vibe. Some modern churches teach great ‘how-to’ principles with a random Bible verse slapped on at the end. People aren’t coming to church because they are just looking for self-help. If so, they only need to stop by a Barnes & Noble bookstore. People are coming to church because they need God, and God has primarily revealed Himself through the Bible. So teach the Bible.
