5. We stand on the shoulders of giants. Some might look at a church that has been in existence for over a hundred years as a sign that church is archaic and irrelevant. Not so. A church that has endured over one hundred years is a needed reminder that perseverance counts. The race we’re called to run as Christians is not a 100m dash. It’s a marathon. If a church has endured for the long haul, it’s a sobering reminder that entire generations lived and died under the care of that church. More than that, it’s a sign that a church successfully handed the baton of faith onto the next generation. In the age of instant celebrity and pop-up churches, traditional churches are a needed reminder that a successful church, whether traditional or modern, is one that passes the baton of faith from generation to generation.
