From an Afghan women beaten and killed to Khaled Beydoun’s thoughtful piece on the Arabic Pledge of Allegiance, I give to you newsworthy links I think you should know about. Check out the links and let me know if you think I should add anything!

Articles About Muslims

The devastating news of an Afghan woman being beaten to death has been all over my newsfeed. But reading Afghan women carry body of lynched woman to burial where female rights activists carried the body of 27 year old Farkhunda had me feeling hopeful that atrocities such as Farkhunda’s murder are not going unnoticed.

Israel’s Netanyahu Reopens Door to Palestinian State, but White House Is Unimpressed. The real question is does Netanyahu care about impressing anyone? And apparently, because of this U.S. could back a UN Resolution on Palestine, according to White House Officials.

Yemen May Be Past The Point Of Peaceful Return. Is there any chance of unity? Have they reached the past of no return? According to this article, with the “two overlapping wars — sectarian and political — would be severe enough to cripple the country.”

Articles/Blogs by Muslims

This past week, many Iranians, Persians, Afghans among others celebrated Nowruz. Professor Omid Safi wrote a thoroughly entertaining piece about spending the holiday at the White House, Persian NewYear at the White House.

And if you are wondering what the story is behind all the pictures of the beautifully decorated tables are, Fatemeh Fakhraie’s blog explains it in detail. Not to mention her own Haft Seen is worth a look.

I can always rely on Khaled Beydoun for being the calm, knowledgeable voice of reason. Read his piece on Al-Jazeera, Pledging allegiance to Islamophobia in US classrooms. About The Pledge of Allegiance that was recited in Arabic in a New York high school and spurred national alarm and outrage.

Videos/Trailers to Watch

Jon Stewart being “critical on Fox” and calls out the network for “being irresponsible and divisive”:

A Little Something to Make you Smile:

This article made me my heart skip a beat. Why was a 9th century Viking woman buried with a ring that says ‘for Allah’ on it?. To find out why, read the article.

And this is an old article, but I just saw it and thought you should, too: Who is Naziyah Mahmood? Naziyah Mahmood…”was a scientist for the European Space Agency, an artist and soon to be published writer/poet. Also, she is a deadly martial artist and weapons collector while being a peace loving woman of faith. Naziyah has overcome a tough upbringing and disability to become an academic of excellence……who can also kick your butt.”

Happy Nowruz to those readers who celebrate!
