A Plea to Baptists Everywhere: Don’t Forget Your Hymns and Gospel Songs

A Plea to Baptists Everywhere: Don’t Forget Your Hymns and Gospel Songs

2. Have Faith in God (376)

If Southern Baptists don’t remember B.B. McKinney, who will? No one, of course. He’s your very own poet laureate, the man who almost single-handedly gave us the groundbreaking and enduring Broadman Hymnal in 1940. Before his life ended prematurely in a car accident, he published some 165 hymns and gospel songs. There were a few I’d put in the “No, thanks” category (like “God, Give Us Christian Homes” and “Out of James one twenty-two / Comes a call for Juniors true”), Baylus Benjamin gave you some great songs. This one is arguably his finest.

Others by B.B. McKinney:

Glorious Is Thy Name (59)
Serve the Lord with Gladness (411)
Wherever He Leads, I’ll Go (361)
