Holy Mary, Mother of the Church and Mother of God, to you we turn. With your “yes” you have opened the door to the presence of Christ in the world, in history, and in souls, receiving in humble silence and total submission the appeal of the Most High. Grant that many men and women may know and hear, even today, the inviting voice of your Son: “Follow Me”.  Stretch out your motherly hand over all missionaries scattered throughout the world, over religious men and women who... Read more

Today I feel like a rock stuck in the mud. I’ve had a demanding strenuous few weeks and been unable to write much beyond compiled research. This morning I read a post by a fellow writer who shared her family’s muddy play. Happiness filled my office. Thoughts of  their fun with wet and slippery earth remind me of a time when I too played in the muck, made turtles and bowls and added moss to their forms. Please forgive me for not fulfilling... Read more

Lord Jesus Christ, watch over your missionary Sisters and Nuns who leave everything to give testimony to your word and your love. In difficult moments, sustain their energies, comfort their hearts, and crown their work with spiritual achievements. Let the image of you crucified on the Cross, which accompanies them throughout life, speak to them of heroism, generosity, love and peace. Amen.     Read more

The Shroud of Turin was wrapped around the body of Jesus after it was taken down from the cross. Experts in the natural sciences began examining the shroud toward the end of the twentieth century. Botanical experts on the research team found the imprints of plants and grains of pollen that can serve as seasonal calendar and geographic indicators. Four plants on the shroud are significant because, as researchers Danin and Baruch report, “…the assemblage…occurs in only one rather small... Read more

We pray the  consecrated hearts and hands of your priests do not grow weary through these blessed days through Easter. In Jesus name and... Read more

Beloved Mother Mary, Mother of Sisters and Nuns, take to your heart your daughters who are close to you because of their higher calling and because of the power which they have received to carry on the work of Christ in a world which needs them so much. My dear friend Michelle Jones writes on her blog, County Road 21, about “The bitter sweet of love and death.” that is Palm Sunday. Palm Sunday 2012, we carried a tiny box to church. I had miscarried 13 week old, Francis Xavier…The choir sang, “can a mother forget her baby, or a woman, the child within her womb.” Tears splashed my fingers as I played the piano…Palm Sunday, 2013, we went to church hollow…the day before the baby who was... Read more

As frost moves out of the ground in the northern Midwest, and mud season moves in, we eagerly wait to begin gardening. And while we wait, we plan. Looking out through windows and doors we often see open areas in our landscape. We might think that a new ornamental tree or evergreen would add visual interest. Trees and shrubs are more permanent than herbaceous perennial plants. So take time to plan for the long term beauty and investment of hardwoods.... Read more
