SDfAoWOP: Jericho

Day Twelve

Joshua 2:18

Behold, when we come into the land, you shall tie this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down, and you shall gather into your house your father and mother, your brothers, and all your father's household.

The strongest city in the ancient world, substantial stone in the baking Mediterranean Sun, solid and safe, stands as nothing before the wrathful justice of God. Jericho's wickedness had risen up to the attention of the Most High and he is prepared to destroy it, even to use his new own people to bring this destruction, though it will be clear that they don't account for very much in the final stone toppling. Nevertheless he is merciful. A scarlet cord, a long bright ribbon the color of blood is provided as a sign, a mark of mercy. Gather those you love, bring them into your house, hang the cord from the window, and see your deliverance. The thing that seems the strongest, the vast towers of power that array themselves against God, the principalities and authorities and wickedness of the earth are all accounted for by God. They will not stand strong before his righteous and holy strength. And single blood like cord is given, whipping and blowing in the sun, given for you that you might be saved and dwell secure and quiet in the land The Lord your God gives you.
