SDfAoWOP: Agag

SDfAoWOP: Agag

Day Eighteen

I Samuel 15:9

But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep and of the oxen and of the fattened calves and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them. All that was despised and worthless they devoted to destruction.

Samuel comes pattering along, after being told by God to do so, and says to Saul, “?!” “What is this sound of sheep, bleating in my ears?”

And Saul doesn't get it. What's the big deal? So I didn't do exactly what God said. Who cares. So I didn't kill this man that God commanded me to kill. And it would have been such a waste to slaughter all these sheep. Everyone here thinks God is so good but he's not, thinks Saul.

Samuel has to do Saul's killing, because he's not stupid enough to believe someone who doesn't get it. It is so tantalizing to believe those who don't even see though a dim glass but who are brand spaking blind. And it is bewitching especially when the lie can be made to seem reasonable, like good economy, or less killing. But God isn't interested in less killing. He's interested in perfect obedience. Put everything to death, is what he ways, that is evil and selfish and wrong. Put it to death in yourself. The word that is eventually given is Die. Die to yourself. With blood all over everywhere. And do it right away, as a first fruit, instead of waiting around for a better offer. Don't be tempted by Saul's disobedient half baked fake living where eventually you die anyway. Samuel hacked Agag to pieces and Saul's sensibilities were offended. Don't you be offended. Not by The Lord. He is good. All the way down to the blood.
