Happy Thanksgiving!

Today I’m thankful for

My family, because what kind of a jerk is not thankful for her family. Seriously though, so grateful for my kids, that I get to have some and that they are growing up so nicely.

And grateful for Matt, who I don’t deserve to be with. And, I must say, really grateful for his high school girl friend who, because he never studied or went to class or anything, told him he was stupid. If she hadn’t called him stupid, he wouldn’t have applied himself and wouldn’t have gotten into college and then wouldn’t have gone to seminary and then I wouldn’t have met him. So today I’m really thankful for her.

And grateful for my parents and his parents who continue to take an interest in us and show up from far flung climes to commiserate with and spoil the children.

And grateful for all our cousins and aunts and uncles. So grateful for modern travel so that sometimes we get to lay eyes on each other.

And I’m grateful for all of you who are reading this blog. Some of you have been reading for nigh on ten years now. Most all of you have been so kind and interesting to get to know. And even the occasional hater, I’m grateful to know you’re out there reading. For all that I complain about the Internet, and even Facebook, and sometimes Twitter, I am so grateful for the people I have discovered in this distant and extraordinary way. We don’t get to eat dinner together (maybe once in a lifetime) but we have the fellowship of ideas and words, the feast of engagement.

And, finally, I’m grateful that my dog, who ate a whole stupid piece of chicken including the bone and was very uncomfortable for a whole day, seems to once more be his usual self.
