SDfAoWOP: the Witch

SDfAoWOP: the Witch

This one is the result of somone asking me about it, echemmm. And, since I'm now writing them as fast as I possibly can, I'd love to hear from you all if there is any particular verse or passage you think I should tackle. And, since I haven't written it out in a long time SDfAoWOP stands for Sarcastic Devotionals for Angry or Worn Out People. There are a lot of verses in the Bible so I could be going on like this for ever and ever. Also, I am generally going forward but I suppose there's no law to say I couldn't go back and do one from previous books. That would mess up my numbering. Horrors.

Day Twenty-one

I Samuel 28:11-13

11 Then the woman said, “Whom shall I bring up for you?” He said, “Bring up Samuel for me.”12 When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out with a loud voice. And the woman said to Saul, “Why have you deceived me? You are Saul.”13 The king said to her, “Do not be afraid. What do you see?” And the woman said to Saul, “I see a god coming up out of the earth.”

There you are, hiding in your ordinary quiet way, engaged in all the works of the devil, trying to eek out a living but mainly just trying not to be found. But everybody knows about you anyway. When someone wants to acquire knowledge that is forbidden, in that same primordial way that we have always done, you are known to provide the apple, the vision, the understanding of evil.

But then one day the person who, at the height of his power, made you an outlaw, comes creeping in and you, not suspecting the worst but ready to accept any little bit of money, find yourself looking at the servant of The Lord, the one who was always bringing evil into the light, who from a child stood in the presence of God and heard his voice.

God is everywhere, and nothing can be hid from him.

Saul collapses on the floor and you, in the midst of fear and death, slaughter an animal, cook a bowl of steaming nourishment and coax him to eat it. He will die. Will you repent and turn away from evil? God sent his servant, even from the dead, for judgement and for salvation. Let it be for salvation.
