It is a bitterly cold day here in the Northeast, in case you were curious about our weather. We complain about this for a decent amount of time on today’s Podcast and then go on to express our thoughts and feelings about Ukraine and Russia, militant masculinity, and then, because it’s what we do, we talked about some tweets on Twitter and the difference between sharp disagreement and mansplaining. In a twist of fate, I complain about the patriarchy and... Read more

It is Friday, in case you hadn’t noticed, and we’ve had another ice storm because of course, Russia has invaded Ukraine, and I have a cold–which is why I didn’t belly up to the blog yesterday–but what I really want to talk about is…let me see, is there anything? One thing is that Facebook cares about my memories, which twelve years ago was that one of my children lived out his convictions: “I just realized,” said Aedan, “that good knights... Read more

Tuesday seems to be the official day of discombobulation. This week, it wasn’t that the car decided not to start, and then that I forgot to take the right exit and drove to a far distant town, it was that I just decided to lie in bed and read the internet in the desultory way that one does. Gosh, there’s a lot of freaky stuff going on in the world. Like this. And all that Russia and Ukraine stuff of... Read more

After hemming and hawing for a few minutes, we decided to attempt ye regular olde Monday Podcast, hoping that we would be able to think of some things to say. We were going along swimmingly and then discovered we’d stopped the wretched thing. Not knowing how to piece two sound files together, we started over again and tried to say whatever it was we were saying. Verily, we are being dragged into this century one way or another. We talk... Read more

Well, here is Friday again, and another ice-storm to mark the occasion. In honor of this completely unremarkable situation, I have a couple of things to say, beginning with the fact that I am woefully behind in all my podcast listening because of all the nothing books I’m binging on audible. But I finally pulled myself away from yet another dumb mystery novel to click on the first installment of the Stand Firm Podcast interview with the Rev. Dr. John Shuler.... Read more

Goodness, what a morning I’m having. Imagining that I would have plenty of time to put up links, I blithely dug out my battery-charged heated vest, scraped the ice off the car, and then tried to start it. So that was a dumb idea. The car battery, dead as a doornail for the third time in a month, joined itself to the further complication of a huge fire near the church, meaning that we suddenly had to leap into the... Read more

Not only is it a Friday, it is going to be warm-ish, which means that a lot of the ice will melt away, making life overall less treacherous. Let’s see if I can rustle up a few takes to mark this happy occasion. One I love this so much. I found it by way of scrolling on some site or other. It’s about how we’re all becoming cranks just by being online: Opinion writing, I argued, was an easy job... Read more

This is the most wonderful thing I’ve seen in ages: A Russian art gallery guard has been accused of doodling on a Soviet-era painting he was responsible for guarding on his first day in the job. During a visit to the Yeltsin Center in Yekaterinburg in December, two visitors spotted eyes drawn in ballpoint pen on Anna Leporskaya’s work Three Figures. The avant-garde painting features three abstract, and usually eyeless, figures. The security guard has since been fired and the... Read more

I honestly haven’t had much time to notice anything online the last few days, except this tweet did leap out at me, because of all the many hours I have spent watching Revoice: I truly don't understand those who downplay the importance of tone & Christlike behavior online. Sure, you can disagree profoundly w/ someone, but our words & deeds say something about who Christ is and what he is like. — Chelsea Patterson Sobolik (@ChelsPat) February 8, 2022 In... Read more

We did podcast yesterday! We just didn’t do it at the usual time. The day got away from us, but instead of just giving up, which is what happened last week, we literally sat down in our living room (instead of our “studio”) and said a lot of things about how many times I’ve watched Revoice 2021, how much of Justin Lee I’ve imbibed on youtube, who much writing I’ve done, and then I also paused for breath and Matt... Read more
