It is another bright, sunny, fall day here in the North East. I don’t know what all the sun is about. It’s actually making me kind of nervous. Yesterday I was too hot–in November. I suppose it must be global warming. Having a hard time hating it, if I’m going to be honest. Anyway! We woke up and did a podcast. This week we talk about the election, of course, and how everyone is wicked, which is why we should... Read more

I’m over at Stand Firm today. Apparently, Mr. Biden made a speech yesterday and in it quoted On Eagle’s Wings. I thought about going and trying to find it, but I have a policy of never listening to any speech any politician makes, and I don’t intend to begin now, even to hear something so fantabulous. Twitter, by turns, seemed enthralled and horrified depending not only on the feelings of affection or loathing for Mr. Biden, but also for the... Read more

One The cat Gloria (also called GloriaBill) has taken to coming into my bed around 4 am and arranging herself around my head and nose and mouth while I’m sleeping so that when I wake up, I’m always sure I have, during the night, contracted the Rona. But then eventually I remove all the fluff from my eyes and nose and mouth and discover that I am basically ok. When I finally do drag myself to fuller consciousness, she sits... Read more

I already don’t really care, except in a sort of detached way, but maybe you find yourself scrolling through the internet more than usual, or at all. Here are some things you can do instead. Write a letter by hand to Facebook explaining how you don’t need them to insert themselves into your personal thought life, that, again, they misunderstood the nature of your interest in their platform, that you were curious about your friends, and desiring of sharing news... Read more

Before anything else, I hope you will pray for Tim Challies and his family. They lost their son unexpectedly yesterday. He writes: Nick was playing a game with his sister and fiancée and many other students when he suddenly collapsed, never regaining consciousness. Students, paramedics, and doctors battled valiantly, but could not save him. He’s with the Lord he loved, the Lord he longed to serve. We have no answers to the what or why questions. I don’t know what... Read more

I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this to you, but today is what’s known as “election day” and if you haven’t voted already, it seems you can go and cast a ballot for who you would like to be the next president. Well, not exactly who you would like, that person probably isn’t running. Anyway, I hope I haven’t shocked you or anything. Maybe you live under a literal or metaphorical rock and don’t know that today is supposed... Read more

It is a blustery and snowy day and I am pondering the horror of having to get out of bed to find a thick pair of socks. Thank goodness I won’t have to do anything more ghastly, like going and breaking the ice on a pail of water to wash my face. Instead, we’ve done a podcast about that curious idea that a man should make sure his wife votes exactly the same way as he does, and whether or... Read more

I’m over at Stand Firm today. Last year for All Saints I put together a pretty great listicle, riffing off the one that Jesus puts together for his lovely Sermon on the Mount. I had been thinking lots about the word “blessing” or rather, hashtag blessed, and thought it was so funny of Jesus to do up a list full of human impossibilities—like humility and selflessness. This year, the thing that strikes me across the soul is the vision in Revelation.... Read more

Well, it is Friday. I just thought I’d point that out in case you were unsure. One I have exactly 20 minutes before I have to haul a child off to the eye doctor. What better time, than during an uptick in covid, to try to make up a lot of back appointments that were all dropped because of covid. It’s fine, it’s all going to be fine. Two Apparently, according to some ancient text, God works all things together... Read more

In the spirit of getting other kinds of work done, here are some things to get you through the day. I was on The Ride Home with John and Kathy last night (I usually am on the last Wednesday of the month at 4:40 if you ever want to remind yourself to tune in–I am always shocked that it’s Wednesday and that the month is over and so never even remember myself). Give it a listen if you like (I come... Read more
