This guy met all his deadlines and look at him. Don’t be like this guy. Well, I did reach a very desirable milestone last night. I finished—no scare quotes—my draft (not the final thing, but much much closer). Every single little one falls into the word count, and they are reasonably sort of distributed up and down the Bible. I think for people who really love the first book, they might be seriously annoyed me with for changing so much.... Read more

It is a gray, cool, quiet morning here in partially opened Bing, and I am furiously working through my book, trying to finish this run through by the end of the day. If I manage to, I only have to go through it two more times (I think), or maybe once. Who knows. But also, if I finish this go through today, I can take a breather tomorrow and maybe even blog. So, because I’m not SuperAnne, we’re pulling up... Read more

This isn’t really an assigned text for this morning, but Peter, in his letter, quotes it, and so rather than climbing back and forth over the True Vine, and the discouraging kind of dependence it indicates, I thought I might just take a glance at Psalm 34, which begins with the note, “Of David, when he changed his behavior before Abimelech, so that he drove him out, and he went away.” That was that clever little time where David pretended... Read more

Is it really Friday? And this poor blog languishes here silent. Well, let’s see if there’s anything besides the fact that I still haven’t finished book editing, which I knew I wouldn’t. One Besides the hard deadline against which I am racing, the kids only have one more week of school and then finals week. Not that it will all be over at that point. Oh no, we’ll have a good long month to do all the stuff we planned... Read more

Good Morning All! I am popping up for ten minutes of air to explain why you should self-identify as a sheep rather than a cheetah. Seriously, it will do you a world of good. Enjoy! Read more

Our neighbors are having a huge glorious tree cut down this morning, which feels (because it is) like a heartbreaking death, and is also very loud. In light of this, we’ve done a very short podcast–a Festivus, mother’s day, how to cope with more lock-down mashup. Hope it makes the day more bearable, or something. I’m halfway through this. Pretty interesting. This is cool. This is great. I heard these rumors all last week. So tragic. This is pretty great.... Read more

Jesus listening to you complain about how you didn’t get to “live your life.” There is a curious maxim flying around the internet, propagated by Glennon Doyle Melton in her new book, that posits that the unlived life of the parent is the greatest burden a child can bear. This idea is attributed to Carl Jung, who I hadn’t imagined to be so foolish, but I don’t know much about him, so perhaps this is just the sort of thing... Read more

I’m over at Stand Firm today. **************************** I missed a remarkable anniversary two days ago, which Matt proceeded to remind me about every few minutes for the last twenty-four hours. Rachel Held Evans died a year ago on Monday. Most of the Twittersphere has moved on to other matters because even events of great import only last as long as a tic-toc over there. But I’ve been thinking about it while thinking about everything else, and I thought I might... Read more

I wasn’t supposed to blog this morning. I’m supposed to be roiling through Nehemiah, Esther, and Job. But my mind is fried, so what better time to throw something up on the internet! It’s Tuesday…is it Tuesday? I’ll just make a random listicle. A As I said yesterday, our poor dear cat Frances died and we buried her, and then the next day, the miracle cat took a quiet moment to go outside without telling anyone. We’ve been wandering up... Read more

Frances 2005-2020 We are so grieved that our beautiful Frances cat went to be with her Maker last week. At the end of this post I’m going to put all my favorite pictures of her–so scroll down. Because it’s Monday we’ve done a fractious podcast–hot takes because we couldn’t agree on what to talk about. Matt’s are entirely Anglican Inside Baseball and mine include your Credibility Book Case, how Glennon Doyle Melton is not actually a Cheetah, and the new... Read more
