As I have experimented with the many varying forms of mediation in my own tradition and in other religious traditions, I have found that it is by far the most beneficial spiritual practice in my spiritual life. The benefits are many–from increased awareness and deep centering to a greater sense of interconnectivity to all of creation. As a Christian, meditation has helped me to listen to the voice of God more regularly and encounter that still, small voice that lies just beyond the noise and distractions of my life.
But to be honest, meditating is really hard. It’s hard to carve out time to sit down, turn off your thinking, and disconnect from the outside world even for just ten minutes. It’s hard to remain disciplined and committed to a practice that is so counter to the way we live our lives every day. It is precisely this difficulty that has made me a huge fan of Oprah and Deepak’s Meditation Experiences.
