Justice in the Gospel is a justice of repentance, change and mercy. It is the justice of walking in another person’s shoes. This video will seem harsh to people who have never felt what it’s like to be on the bottom of the wheel of life.
The bottom line to it is that “There is no them. Them is us.” That is the social and cultural message of Jesus in two short sentences. There are so many ways we walk past Lazarus. Every one of us has done it.
But the call of the Gospels is repentance. Change. Rebirth. Being born again is more than a phrase. It signifies a profound change of focus, feeling, and desire in your heart. Jesus doesn’t change what you do. He changes what you want to do.
As I said, this video will seem harsh, even raw to some of the people who follow this blog. But if we are going to live the Gospels, we have to hear and understand hurting people. And hurting people are not always pretty a pathetic. Sometimes, they are angry and real. Read the Psalms. They are full of the prayers of people who have been to the doorway of hell and are crying out to God with the raw rage of their ravaged souls.
Giving voice to your hurt is ok when you are talking to God. Hearing the hurt of other people is part of our call as followers of Christ. It is there, in the Gospels.
