More Nazi Salutes in High Places. Are You a Nazi Too?

Nazi salutes are showing up everywhere in MAGA world.

1. Elon Musk gave a Nazi salute at Trump’s presidential inauguration a month ago. Musk, in typical MAGA fashion, tried to gaslight by claiming that he didn’t do what we plainly saw him do. He claimed he was giving a “Roman salute.” In other words, Elon was claiming that he was saying “Hail Ceasar” to Trump instead of “Heil Hitler.” That’s not a whole lot better, but I am convinced it was a bald-faced lie. I think Musk was signaling Trump’s Nazi backers, who had been complaining that they weren’t getting enough attention after delivering the right wing incel/Nazi vote to Trump. I believe Musk was telling them to be patient, that their day was coming. Trump appeared to be fine with dirtying up his inauguration with this dastardly symbol of evil. He didn’t say a word of objection.

   

2. An Anglican Priest delivered a Nazi salute at the 2025 March for Life in Washington, DC a couple of weeks ago. Since he was a speaker at the March for Life, his action conflated a cause that is supposed to be working to further the sanctity of human life with organized mass murder on a global scale. The priest was summarily defrocked by his Anglican communion in what was a refreshing (and almost unique) act of decisive refusal to go along with the Nazification of their moral voice. The former priest later said he was “joking.”  I watched his speech, and it didn’t look like a joke to me.

   

3. When Steve Bannon spoke to the Republican Party’s big fund-raising meeting, he yelled “Will you fight for Trump!!?” to the cheering crowd. His speech ended with him yelling “Fight! Fight! Fight!” as he pounded the podium. He then gave a Nazi salute and shouted “Amen! God love you people!” By doing this, he directly linked Trump and the support for Trump with Nazi ideology. It was disgusting but unsurprising to see Bannon also link Nazis with Christianity. This is standard behavior for Neo Nazi leaders. Unsurprisingly, the Republican elite gave Bannon a standing ovation.

   

   There’s no question that MAGA is a Neo Nazi movement. They’re not hiding it. They’re shoving it in our faces.

   The real question here is simple. Are you a Nazi too?
