Today is the World Day Against Human Trafficking.
It’s as ironic as irony can be that on this day America is embroiled in an argument over whether or not the full, unfiltered Jeffrey Epstein Files — without cleaning them up to hide people Trump wants hidden — should be made available to the public.
Why are we protecting these men?
Why did Trump’s Attorney General, Pam Bondi, pull 1,000 FBI agents off their other work to go through the files, reportedly to flag (and perhaps to remove) any mention in them of Donald Trump?
Why did Trump’s FBI, initiate “conversations” with the woman who recruited and groomed Epstein’s victims? Why was she given limited immunity to talk to them?
Why are right wing, Trump-servicing news outlets suddenly trying to claim that this evil woman, who was Epstein’s full partner in his crimes, is a “victim?” Why are they trying to clean her up and convince their viewers to feel sorry for Ghislaine Maxwell?
Are they softening their viewers up for the day when Trump gives her a pardon?
I don’t want to see an edited version of the files that has had everyone Trump likes, including, perhaps, Trump himself, taken out of them.
I fully expect that if we ever see the real files, there will be prominent liberals in the list. But I also expect that there will be a whole bunch of right wing billionaires, politicians, heads of state and clergy in them as well.
The Wall Street Journal has said that Trump himself is in the files. Elon Musk, who used his powers as head of DOGE to get into lots of secret files, has said that Trump is in the files.
I don’t know who is in the files. But I will say that Trump’s hysterical, over-the-top cover-up these past few weeks makes it look like he’s in the Epstein Files, and not just for taking rides on Epstein’s jet.
Of course, most people aren’t all that surprised by Trump’s behavior. He is a known, admitted, sexual predator.
Twenty-five women — twenty-five women — risked full-on MAGA hate, threats and attacks to go on record that Trump had sexually assaulted them. Trump was found guilty of sexual assault in an open court. Trump is on tape bragging about assaulting women — grabbing ‘em by the “p——-y”. He used to go on Howard Stern’s radio show and brag about how he employed his power as owner of the pageant to force his way into the women’s dressing rooms to ogle them while they were naked.
Contestants from Miss Teen America, who were as young at 15 years, said that he went into their dressing rooms to do his perverted Peeping Tom routine on them. These were all minors, teen-aged girls.
What part of this doesn’t MAGA get? Trump and Epstein were pals. Epstein once said he was Trump’s “best friend.”
Trump himself said that Epstein was terrific guy.” Trump told New York magazine. He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.
Now what do you think that comment means? I don’t know any more than anyone else, but I think it sounds like Trump knew full well Epstein was trafficking little girls, and he thought it was “a lot of fun” and that Epstein was “a great guy” for doing it. “He’s a terrific guy” … “a lot of fun” … “he likes beautiful women as much as I do” … and he likes them young.
Now, we are watching Trump hysterically launch one idiotic attack on other people after another as he twists and turns, shucks and jives, lies and lies in what certainly looks like an attempt to avoid being exposed himself if the real, full Epstein Files are released.
He appears to be using the full power of his (not ours) Justice Department as his private law and cover-up firm to hide … something … in the Epstein Files.
So … yeah … I find it ironic that this is where America finds itself on the World Day Against Human Trafficking.
From Vatican News:
30 July marks the United Nation’s World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. The theme this year is “Human trafficking is Organized Crime – End the Exploitation”, focusing on the joint efforts needed by law enforcement, the criminal justice system, and society to have a victim-survivors centered approach to ending and preventing further exploitation.
Human Trafficking by the numbers
Based on statistics from United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)
· Between 2019 and 2022, the number of victim-survivors of forced labor worldwide increased by 47%.
· In 2022, 61% of people trafficked were female – 39% adults and 22% girls.
· UNODC reported that at least 162 nationalities were trafficked to 128 countries, with the majority (31%) being citizens of African countries.
