Medicaid has Many Names. Losing Medicaid has one name: Death

Remember back in the 2024 presidential debates? Trump was asked what his plan was for providing health care to Americans if he followed through on his idea to deep-six the subsidies in Obamacare. His answer was (I heard him say it) “I have concepts of a plan.”

As soon as he took the oath a year ago, Trump began work on his Big Beautiful Bill. That bill lapsed the subsidies for Obamacare, which, as I’m sure you’ve noticed, raised the cost of your health insurance by as much as 75% to 300%. 

The bill also cut the funding for Medicaid. Medicaid is where people who can’t afford to pay Trump’s new super expensive health insurance costs have go to get care when they’re really, really sick.

The Big Beautiful Bill is also going to lead to cuts in Medicare. 

The Big Beautiful Bill took the money it got from ending our health insurance subsidies and cutting Medicaid and Medicare and shifted it into tax cuts for America’s 400+ billionaires.

The Big Beautiful Bill also had the government print money it didn’t have to fund ICE and turn it into a Neo Nazi paramilitary that is bigger and has more money than the militaries of most countries.

This is a topic for another post, but one effect of the Big Beautiful Bill is that it almost doubled our national debt in one year. Our trade deficit doubled in 2025, also.

It has come to my attention that a lot of people who are being cut off Medicaid do not realize that Trump and the Republicans they elected to Congress are the ones who are killing them. The reason is simple. They don’t know that the “insurance” they are losing is Medicaid.

The reason for that is equally simple.

Medicaid goes by different names in different states.

I have a family member who is suffering from the terrible cancer Glioblastoma. This guy is Oklahoma, right down to the ground. He worked all his life, rodeoed when he was young and has the old breaks in his bones to show for it. He likes to hunt and fish, and he’s not a lookie-loo. He brings home meat to feed his family for the year.

He was a strong Trump supporter, who thought Republican Senator Mark Wayne Mullins hung the moon.

When Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill took hold and he was kicked off Medicaid, he didn’t realize that the people he had been voting for created, passed and signed the law that took away his health care and left him to die.

He thought SoonerCare was some kind of “insurance” from the state or somebody, and he had just “lost” his “insurance.”

SoonerCare is the Oklahoma name for Medicaid.

If you or someone you love can no longer afford Obamacare because Trump and the Republicans in Congress cut the subsidies … If you or someone you love is then forced to go on Medicaid when you get really sick … If you or someone you love is then kicked off Medicaid and has to stop chemotherapy or treatment for your stroke or heart attack or Parkinson’s disease or whatever hard hand life has dealt you …

… If that happens to you or someone you love … you deserve to know who did it to you.

Trump said he had a “concept of a plan” about how he would provide health care for Americans after he destroyed the health care they already had. Optimistic, trusting Americans took that for an answer. And now, they’re paying for it with their lives.

Note: When Trump and Congressional Republicans “lapsed” the subsidies for Obamacare, they cut them, or, to use another word, they ended them. “Lapsed” is a sneaky way to do away with something when you don’t want to have to admit to your constituents that you did away with it. When they “lapsed” the subsides for Obamacare, they shifted the cost to you and me. That resulted in people suddenly being billed huge amounts for their health insurance that they simply could not pay. That resulted in people, including families with young children, being forced to give up health insurance. At the same time, Trump and Congressional Republicans drastically cut Medicaid. Medicaid is where people went for medical care when they were desperately ill and had no health insurance. That ended up bankrupting a lot of hospitals — and it’s just begun; you’re going to see a lot of hospitals close. At the same time, Trump and the Republicans shifted this money into a massive tax cut for billionaires. They also provided hundreds of billions in welfare for billionaires through “privatization” and other scams. Billionaires then turn around and take some of that money — OUR money — and use it to pay for campaigns to elect more Republicans who will shovel more money to the billionaires.
