Sunday is Divine Mercy Sunday. Divine Mercy Sunday is based on the visions of St Faustina and was instituted by Pope John Paul II. There is a Divine Mercy Novena which you can pray in the week and a half before the feast. Lent, Holy Week, Easter and Divine Mercy Sunday all come during the busy time of the year for me, which is what I blame for the fact that I have forgotten to start this Novena in time... Read more

It’s time for every brainless knee-jerk Planned Parenthood supporter to line up and recite “right wing lies.”  A Planned Parenthood lobbyist (I’m leaving her name out because she’s just one of many) spoke against a bill requiring that infants who are born alive after abortions be given medical care instead of just dumped in the trash and allowed to die. Planned Parenthood has opposed bills to protect the lives of infants who survive abortions every time I’m aware of. What’s different... Read more

This is a man bites dog story. Chris Calabrese, a lobbyist for the ACLU, has said that the gun control bill pending in the United States Senate may infringe on privacy rights and civil liberties. That’s the problem when you create a sociopath-producing society. You end up having to hermetically seal the whole population to try to keep these monstrous few from going into movie theaters and schools and killing people. Instead of punishing the guilty, you end up using... Read more

Franks Weathers, the brilliant writer, retired Marine and all around good guy who bills himself “Joe six pack,” wrote a fantastic post about gay marriage yesterday. Instead of going off into arcane reasoning and trying to avoid the moral implications, Frank went straight to the heart of the matter. His argument can be summed up in a few words that belie the eloquence of what he wrote but still get the point across: 1. Hell is real. 2. People go... Read more

Pope Francis reached out to women in a powerful way during Holy Week.  First, there was his wonderful action on Holy Thursday when he washed the feet of two young women. He spoke of women as the first witnesses to Christ’s resurrection during his Easter vigil homily and then on Tuesday, he spoke again about Mary Magdalene. Yesterday, he delivered a powerful reflection on unique role of women as mothers. Feminists have thrown motherhood over in many ways. I have... Read more

His name is Dominic Gondreau. He is eight years old and he has cerebral palsy.  His father, Professor Paul Gondreau, is living in Rome with his wife and five children while he studies theology. Dominic was allowed to sit up front in the seating for disabled people. His mother was with him, but since there were only two seats available, Dominic’s father stayed back in the crowd with Dominic’s brothers and sisters. Dominic’s father has written an essay about the... Read more

The parents of a disabled little boy were speechless and moved to tears when Pope Francis cradled the child and kissed him. I watched the video, and it brought a lump to my throat as well.   Read more

How can anyone say that an unborn baby is not a human being? I don’t know, even though I once did it myself. Based on my memory of myself at that time in my life, I would guess that people who say this are focused on what they see as the welfare of the pregnant young woman to the exclusion of the life of the child. Even though they say that the baby is not a human being, what they... Read more

So … what happened at the March for Marriage last week?  If you know, you must have been there because the various news media enforced a near-total blackout on the event.  Let’s think about that for a moment. Gay marriage is what you might call a “big” story. The Supreme Court was hearing two cases that have the potential to upend 2,000 years of teaching, law and culture concerning the fundamental unit on which all of Western civilization is built.... Read more
