God Made Trump. Really?
The 2024 US presidential campaign steals Christian symbols to ascribe messianic qualities to Donald Trump. The unabashed online video, “God Made Trump,” depicts Mr. Trump as a divinely chosen deliverer. This so violates the commandment against idolatry that it could have been filmed in the devil’s own media studio. Yet, it is so transparently propagandistic, it should embarrass Satan for even thinking he could persuade Americans to change their votes.
“God Made Trump” is a video produced by the Dilley Meme Team. The content imitates Paul Harvey’s “So God Made a Farmer.” Is “God Made Trump” a spoof? Or is it serious?
Republicans treat it as serious. “God Made Trump” stumps Trump for president. It’s played at some Trump campaign events and promoted by US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) on Facebook.
God made Trump. Really! Just as God has made you and me along with Angie and Leona.
Might “God Made Trump” backfire?
As I have suggested, Satan is not very smart. This attempt to overreach with a direct assault on the God of grace just may backfire. The Trump campaign may actually lose votes.
“Donald Trump’s message will not only antagonize the non-religious and agnostic but will probably divide many religious-minded believers. Jews, Muslims, liberal-leaning Christians, and others are unlikely to be pleased to have an evangelistic president at the helm,” according to Robert Pawlicki in the HeraldNet.
One Patheos columnist, Julie Nichols, responds to “God Made Trump” by soliciting support for Christians Against Christian Nationalism.
Conclusion
Recall how Jesus warned us about Satan. Satan “is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44). Whether spoof or blasphemy, “God Made Trump” belongs in the lie category.
