A Perfect Reminder to Control Your Tongue in Proverbs 12:18

A Perfect Reminder to Control Your Tongue in Proverbs 12:18 2022-04-07T01:41:44-05:00

When I woke up this morning, I felt incredibly grouchy due to waking up numerous times in the middle of the night. When I went into work, I was worried that my irritability would lead to me losing my filter and swearing up a storm at the slightest provocation.

To my shock and humor, my daily Bible verse app provided me with the following devotional from Proverbs 12:18:

“There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts,
but the tongue of the wise brings healing.”

Proverbs 12:18

The message was loud and clear, and one of the few things that prevented me from letting myself vocalize the irritable thoughts I had throughout my shift. It was tempting, especially with two no-call/no-shows, and what felt at times like an endless line of customers.

God’s timing really is impeccable.

It’s so tempting to let yourself lose your cool at the drop of a hat and “let it fly”. I can attest to that, especially after working in different customer-facing jobs.

Nonetheless, having the willpower to hold your tongue and not easily create conflict is the better way to go.
