Once upon a time when we were a newly engaged couple, the Computer Guy’s grandfather, a father of 6 children, teased us about the day when we would have six children ourselves.
And we laughed.
There was no way we would ever be so foolish as to have six children. What kind of people have six children in today’s world? So when we discovered that our sixth child was a boy, well…we knew that we just had to name him after his great-grandfather. It is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and one of the few that I’ve never second guessed.
Grandpa didn’t live long enough to meet our little guy. We didn’t get to tell him that we were taking his name and passing it on. This past weekend, his bride turned 90 and went back to Oklahoma to celebrate with her. We took the opportunity to show #6 the man whose name he carries.
I wasn’t sure if he understood at 3 years old that he was named for this man he’d never met. The second day we were there, I caught him staring at Grandpa’s picture. “Who is that?” I asked him.
“That’s Grandpa Me,” he replied.
