**Ever have one of those days when you can’t win? yeah…me too…
Today was #3’s turn to pick dinner. There are just days when I need a little inspiration. I call those days “Thursday”. So, I asked him, “What do you want for dinner? If I have the ingredients, I’ll make whatever you want.”
“I want chili with hot dogs.” He answered.
“A chili dog?” I asked him.
He huffed a bit and said “No, mom. A bowl of chili with hotdogs and cheese with bread on the side.”
“Ummm…chili cheese dogs in a bowl?” I tried helpfully.
“No. Chili. Hot dogs. Cheese. That’s it.”
I decided to cut my losses and said “Fine. I can make that.”
And I did. Big bowls of steamy hot chili with hot dogs mixed in topped with cheese.
My children loved it and hardly spoke for the first few minutes because they were chowing down. I was feeling triumphant until I heard from the kitchen table a whispered conversation between my two eldest sons.
“Do you know what mom called this? Chili cheese dogs.”
“What?”
“Chili cheese dogs. I think it’s an old people thing.”
“Old people are weird.”
