Prayers and a Cup of Tea

Prayers and a Cup of Tea February 1, 2013

Early yesterday morning when I was wasting time on Facebook instead of doing the editing I needed to be doing, a friend IM’d me “This day is already starting off hard.” It was 6AM.

“Want someone to pray with this morning?” I typed.

“YES!!!” came the enthusiastic reply.

I got my cup of tea, curled up on the couch, and dialed her number. There, in the quiet darkness of my house at 6AM, I started my day with a friendly chat and an honest prayer. I prayed for her day and she prayed for mine. When the children woke up half an hour later, we said good-bye and started our days.

I don’t know how the rest of her day went (I didn’t talk to her today), but I practically skipped through mine. There is something about the community feeling of praying with a dear friend that warms the heart. It reminds us that we’re not alone. We’re not only children.

I’m thinking of making this a regular thing. First thing in the morning praying with a phone in one hand and my tea cup in the other. It just makes me happy. In that quiet moment of fellowship I’m reminded that I’m not an island unto myself, just hanging out with my own family, I’m a part of the Body of Christ.

Our modern way of living tends to separate us from each other. How nice it is to be able to use a little of that same modern world to reach out and draw each other close.
