**I’m blogging about the 90 day challenge for my gym, WTFCrossFit. If you’re in the area, check us out!**
I clocked myself on the underside of my chin with the barbell this morning. I was really trying to challenge myself and put 10 pounds more than I usually lift onto the bar. (It’s amazing how much heavier 10 pounds can be.) I was thinking about my form – where my feet were planted, the straightness of my back, etc. Shermonte, one of the trainers, told me that I was lifting out and around my head wasting energy and risking injury.
“Straight up,” he said, “like you’re going to hit yourself in the nose.”
I nodded and gave it a big heave…
WHAP!!! into the underside of my chin. My teeth rattled and my eyes teared up. I let out the breath I had been holding (how long had I been holding my breath?) reset my feet and threw the weight up overhead.
My chin hurts this morning and my teeth ache and it doesn’t matter at all. I’m weirdly proud of that ugly swollen bruise on my chin. It means I wasn’t just trying; I was doing. I was giving it everything I had – full out. It’s my ‘A’ for effort – right there on my face.
In other news, I snuck in and got on the gym’s scale this morning. I’m down 1/2 a pound from last week’s weigh-in. It’s not a lot, but it feels big to me. Those numbers are moving in the right direction.
I had the yummiest salad yesterday and thought I’d share
2 cups baby spinach
4 good sized strawberries sliced
1/2 oz or so feta cheese
sprinkling of slivered almonds
3 oz pan-browned chicken breast cubed
home made raspberry vinaigrette dressing (Yum!) drizzled on top
Make your own dressing in the blender
1 tbsp olive oil
1/4 cup seasoned rice vinegar
handful of red raspberries
Blend until smooth. Refrigerate what you don’t use.
Happy Friday!
