#3 left yesterday for his turn at his grandparents’ house.  Our house without its resident superhero?  With no one jumping off of the furniture or building fantastic castles in the classroom?  A little boring. ******************************************************* My sweet mother in law saw my purple striped hair yesterday.  She hated it.  Loves me.  Hates my hair.  If one of her sons was going to end up with a girl with wild hair, she always thought it would be the one who is... Read more

(For my sweet husband, although the rest of you may read it, too.) Proposing to me over the phone?   I was sitting on the floor folding socks and underwear when you called to say “I think maybe we should go shopping for rings.”  It was my favorite phone call ever! Putting together the wedding invitations with the navy ribbon through them?  What was I thinking? The standoff between me and the pastor over the “Ave Maria”?  We almost had... Read more

Yesterday, #5 pointed out a roly-poly to his father.  “Dad.  Look at this guy.” They watched it crawl around for a few minutes when #3 picked it up and let it crawl on his hand and arm.  When they put him back down their father remarked, “Yup, he’s pretty cool.  Did you know that someday when you die, he’s one of the bugs that will eat you?” Read more

Yesterday we drove to Enid, Oklahoma to clean out my husband’s grandmother’s house.  A year ago she moved into an assisted living center, and the family has finally agreed that she will never go home again.  The Computer Guy and I loaded #6 into the car and made the 90 minute drive to her house to help his aunt and uncle sort through 90 years worth of possessions. We uncovered family heirlooms no one else knew existed.  Cool things such... Read more

My 3 year old came over to me this morning, put his mouth on me and then started licking my arm. “What are you doing?” his disgusted mother asked. He looked up with a sparkle in his eye and replied, “I eat you.” Laughed maniacally and walked away. Read more

Our girls have now been gone for a week and a half.  We miss them terribly, but the boys have enjoyed the freedom of a girl-free house.  All but one. Yesterday afternoon, #1 called as I was making lunch.  Without thinking, I switched her to the speakerphone and set the phone on the kitchen counter.  As her laughter sounded in the kitchen, a voice cried out from the next room, “Maw-Dee?” (His pet name for her.)”Maw-Dee!” He sped into the... Read more

Two new boys have moved into our neighborhood.  They are exactly the same ages as my two eldest sons.  They came over this afternoon to play the Wii and check out my boys’ house.  Their mouths fell open when they saw our classroom.  “What room is that?” they asked. “It’s our classroom,” #2 replied. “Do you like being homeschooled?” “Yeah.  It’s pretty cool.  As soon as I finish my work I get the rest of the day free. So, yeah.”... Read more
