As most of you who read this blog know, I interviewed a young Katy Perry many years ago when she released a Christian album. Because of that brief meeting, last January, a writer working on a biography contacted me for some perspective on her early years. I gave some opinions, but declined to speak with too much authority on the subject. Today, I realized that book has released (see it on Amazon here) on Omnibus Press, so I downloaded the Kindle version to check my comments. Here’s one in response to a question of how I felt about her transitioning from a Christian artist. I’m glad it made it into the final book.

“When she hit mainstream, I was torn in my feelings in that I was proud she was having success but sad that the gospel music industry lost such a promising talent. I also hated that a voice like hers that could have continued to provide encouragement to Christian teens trying to live counter-culturally had now become a voice of the culture they’re trying to escape.”
