UPtv’s ‘Country Hearts’ Showcases Faith and Family Side of Wrestling Superstar Chris Jericho November 3, 2023

In the world of professional wrestling, Chris Jericho is a name that resonates with millions of fans around the globe. His charismatic persona and impressive in-ring skills have made him a household name in the industry. However, Jericho’s talents extend beyond the squared circle, as he has made a successful leap into acting, including his latest dramatic role in the UPtv movie “Country Hearts.”

“To be honest with you,” Jericho began, “the reason why I did it is because I was offered the part. So anytime that you’re in show business and they give you an offer, it’s a big deal.” Jericho steps into the shoes of “Bones,” a retired rockstar with a horse breeding farm who guides his daughters in the music business.

Jericho admitted that he never thought of playing such a role but found himself enjoying the experience once filming began. “I had a really, really great experience with this sort of a dramatic part, which is something I hadn’t really done a lot of before,” he explained. This transition from the wrestling ring to the big screen was a natural one for Jericho, who portrayed the role of a wise and steady father figure to his on-screen daughters.

“It’s one of those things where I have daughters, so I was able to kind of internalize them on screen, troubles and situations with my own daughters,” Jericho revealed. His real-life experiences as a father lent authenticity to his portrayal in the movie. He also drew from his years of being on the road as a wrestler and his time in a rock and roll band, which provided insights into the character of a retired rockstar.

Another way that Jericho identifies with “Bones” is sharing his Christian faith. The actor said faith and prayer are integral to his journey, beginning with a love for Christian metal music in his teens. He still prays before his matches. While acknowledging that he’s “not 1000% perfect,” Jericho emphasized the importance of faith in his life.

“I’ve always had that influence, starting way back in the 80s when I really got into Christian heavy metal, and really following the teachings and the lessons,” he said. “At the end of the day, it’s always great to know who the ‘Boss’ is and take it very seriously.”

Jericho confirmed that “Country Hearts Christmas” had already been filmed, and possibly more if the need arises.

“If it does well, and they decide to take it in that direction, I’d be up for it and ready to strap on the boots again and get rolling,” he said.

Although the role of actor is one of many hats the entertainer wears, also including podcast host, author, rock star and of course, wrestling, Jericho made it clear that he doesn’t need to pick just one. “I kind of made my choice when I decided to try and do both of them. And when they both worked out, suddenly you’re in the catbird seat,” he said. His many hats continue to bring him immense fulfillment, and he plans to continue pursuing all of them.

“Country Hearts,” also starring Lanie McAuley, Katerina Maria and Michelle Nolden, is now playing on UPtv and the UPtv app and “Country Hearts Christmas” will premiere on Nov. 19.
