Mullen portrays Elizabeth Freeman, a groundbreaking but often unmentioned African American woman who secured her freedom in 1781 through a bold legal petition, becoming the first enslaved woman to successfully challenge slavery in the United States.

“She stood before a white lawyer, a white judge, and an all-white jury, and they still said yes and granted her her freedom,” Mullen said. “She was the first in the United States, as an African American, to receive such freedom, especially as a female.”

The film, which features an ensemble cast including Pat Boone, Kevin Sorbo, and Richard Dreyfuss, explores pivotal moments of divine intervention in America’s founding. For Mullen, involvement in the project was a carefully considered decision rooted in spiritual conviction.

“I had been offered a couple of things in the past that just didn’t feel right,” she explained. “Even some mainstream cameos, if it didn’t seem as if I had the Lord’s approval, I said no. But somehow I knew I felt the Lord’s approval to say yes to this.”

Mullen’s passion for historical storytelling aligns with her lifelong commitment to scripture and education. Known for her ability to memorize and teach biblical passages, she sees the film as an opportunity to highlight God’s ongoing role in national history.

“I believe we are a part of the plan of the LORD, and his hand was on our country,” Mullen said. “I believe his hand still is on our country, and the future of our country really resides not just in his hands, but in our hands and our response to him.”

The docudrama goes beyond traditional historical narratives, offering scholarly insights alongside compelling storytelling. It aims to remind audiences that fundamental American freedoms originate from divine sources rather than governmental decree.

Mullen’s portrayal of Elizabeth Freeman represents more than a historical reenactment; it’s a testament to resilience, faith, and the transformative power of individual courage.

“After hearing her story, I absolutely wanted to be part of this,” Mullen said. “The Lord gave me success in memorizing my lines and, I pray, properly conveying the heart of the character.”

The film arrives at a critical moment of national reflection, offering a perspective that intertwines historical scholarship with spiritual understanding. By highlighting lesser-known stories of courage and divine guidance, “The American Miracle” seeks to inspire viewers with a nuanced view of national origins.

For Mullen, the project represents more than a professional opportunity—it’s a chance to share a powerful narrative of hope and divine intervention.

“I really pray that people are excited not just about the film, but about her story and our story as Americans,” she said.

“The American Miracle – Our Nation is No Accident” is a thought-provoking exploration of faith, freedom, and the unseen hands that shape national destiny.
