A friend drew my attention to this cartoon from People in White Coats. I’m a bit confused, to be honest. The shape of the bodies being thrown overboard makes me think that they are supposed to be Noah and his family. Were they not primates?! Or is the idea that they were made from modeled dirt and a modified rib, and this coup will now allow evolution to take its natural course? Read more
Do you get Yoda and Yoder confused? If so, this Venn Diagram from TheologyGrams will hopefully help you keep them straight. As far as I know, only one of them has warning labels in their books because of sexual harassment and abuse of women. That doesn’t make one great either. I presume Yoda knew that, even if Yoder did not. And so that can help you tell them apart, too…unless you know something about Yoda that I don’t. Read more

On his blog Genealogy of Religion, Cris Campbell talks about reading Colin Calloway’s book One Vast Winter Count: The Native American West before Lewis and Clark. The crux of the post can be summed up by quoting Campbell: I have no doubt that indigenous oral traditions are remarkable repositories of deep history and ancient knowledge. But I wonder whether pushing the “Let the Lord decide” button gives you one set thing, or randomizes it, or does something else. Reflecting on this is actually useful, since plenty of people “leave things up to the Lord” without reflecting on what that means. Does it mean accepting whatever happens? Does it mean going for the healthy option of... Read more
Marc Cortez shared the above comic about dog heaven. Is it just a bit of silliness about dogs and chocolate? Or is there a deeper and more serious element to it? Perspectives from dog owners are especially welcome. Read more
Hemant Mehta shared the above image, supposedly of a letter to the editor printed in an Indiana newspaper in 1830. I’ve learned to be skeptical of such alleged examples of people complaining about advancing technology and breakneck speeds which, from our perspective, seem slow and simple. Whether it is authentic or not, the fact that it is signed “anonymous canal stockholder” is humorous. There is a canal that runs through Indianapolis, which was supposed to be part of a larger... Biblical Studies Online shared the above lecture by David Clines, which is about the variety of views and depictions of creation in the Bible. And of related interest, Deane Galbraith shared an article by David Clines on the sons of God in Genesis 6. Read more
