Did I Inspire Eminem to Get in Shape?

Did I Inspire Eminem to Get in Shape? August 10, 2015

I always love to hear how people keep in shape. Maybe it’s a weird combination of jock and nerd in me… but I really find it fascinating. There are so many different workout systems, and it’s awesome to see someone finding one that works for their lifestyle.

Eminem told Men’s Journal he went through pretty much every kind of workout before he found one that he could stick with. He ran, did sit-ups and push-ups, and  boxing. But he wasn’t very consistent because “Everything has to work around the music.”

Then he overdosed and went into rehab. Hitting rock bottom gave him the motivation he needed to get serious about getting in shape.

After he left rehab, he replaced his addictions with running. He says he ran 17 miles a day on a treadmill, like a hamster on a wheel. No wonder he ended up injured.

Then he got smart and started switching up his workouts. He’d alternate between running and workout DVDs until he found the right one. “I know a lot of these DVD guys are wacky, but I’m alone in my gym; I need someone on the TV yelling to motivate me. Besides, some of this… is entertaining.”

He started with Shaun T’s Insanity, then P90X, and finally landed on Body Beast. That one was the charm for him — now he does it every day. “The first time I did the legs, I couldn’t walk for two days. Now I’m doing arms one day, chest the next day, legs the next, and I’m still functioning throughout the day. And I can finally do it without pausing the DVD.”

Why do I think this is cool? Because I’m in Body Beast. Yes, before The Bachelor, I filmed the program with my friend and fitness mentor, Sagi Kalev. Sagi affectionately calls me “Barbie” in the series because he slipped up while trying to compare me to a Ken doll and said Barbie instead and unfortunately the nickname stuck during the two weeks of filming.

So, I like to think it’s possible that Eminem is getting in shape with with me, or Barbie as he may know me, each morning.
