I don’t even know what to say anymore. The leadership of the far right evangelical bunch continues to out do themselves in an effort to drive nails into their coffin. I am beyond disgusted with them.
The Council on Bibilcal Manhood and Womanhood–I’ll bet they are a million laughs at a party–chose the week where America’s fifth largest city is battling catastrophic flooding to issue their “Christian Manifesto” in which they lay out their views about the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman.
As Houston gasps for breath under 50 inches of rainfall received in a matter of a few days, these shameless Pharisees stood up and denounced equal rights for millions of Americans in the LGBTQ community. The timing of this travesty of a statement really bothers me, but the message behind the statement bothers me even more.
Here is what I have to say to the Council:
We already knew what you think–you’ve said it all before, many times–we don’t need your statement–not now, not ever again.
You believe the bible is very clear in labeling homosexuality and sex outside the marriage sinful–we get it–but you went even further and attacked less conservative Christians who are questioning your stance in ever increasing numbers when you added that “it is sinful to approve of homosexual immorality or transgenderism.” You went on to imply that there is absolutely no room for debate about this among Christians–that we could not “agree to disagree.” Essentially, in that last statement, you implied that anyone who doesn’t join in lockstep with your biblical interpretation and help you denounce millions of our LGBTQ brothers and sisters isn’t a true Christian.
How dare you!
You do not own Christianity. You do not own the will of God. You have no right to issue such a decree.
You continue to single out one “sin” and harp upon it above all others–a very unbiblical thing to do–because you so fear the fact that more and more Christians are reaching out to welcome the LGBTQ community in an attempt to reflect the love of Christ–the true charge of a Christian.
Where is the love of Christ reflected in your “Nashville Statement”? Which of the 14 points of your manifesto reaches out in love to those you condemn? What part of your diatribe would make you, if you were in the LGBTQ community, feel like coming to your church this Sunday?
You charlatans continue to drive people away with your divisive message. Keep it up and you’ll have none but a few aged, bitter fundamentalists to count among your ranks.
Nobody is telling you that you have to change your beliefs–if that’s the way you interpret the bible, that’s certainly your prerogative–but you need to back off the implication that you own the narrative. You don’t!
You are beginning to lose control and it scares you. We get it.
Just don’t be surprised if, as you continue to spread this hateful message, one day you look around and realize that nobody is listening anymore–keep it up and you will eventually drive everyone away.
