<a href=”http://”>  I was reading Fr. Roderick Vonhogen’s post on Facebook (he is a Dutch priest who speaks and writes in American English and is very, very “with it” regarding technology, communication, culture and faith.) and he posted this link to the Catholic News Service article:  Vatican newspaper praises values in new Harry Potter film Fr. Roderick also says:  “check out and subscribe to SQPN’s popular podcast series ‘The Secrets of Harry Potter’, dedicated to highlighting the many Christian themes... Read more

Remembering Michael Jackson. May he rest in peace. Today’s “revivial, ceremony, concert” at the Staples Center in his memory Los Angeles is beautiful. I have never seen a funeral like it, and it seems totally consistent with Michael’s image and life. Here it is HEAL THE WORLD! This is it. Now I am crying. This song is a meditation and a challenge.  Heal the World In the light of Pope Benedict XVI’s new encyclical, Charity in Truth , the song... Read more

AMERICA magazine ran an excellent article on the American Catholic novelist Flannery O’Connor in their June 22, 2009 issue. Here is a link to it: Grace and Grotesque: Flannery O’Connor on the page and screen by Jon M. Sweeney. Sweeney quotes a Nigerian priest who is a writer as well: ““I’m fascinated” he said, “by her incredible understanding of the dynamics of sin and grace in the modern world. An article in todays New York Times Magazine by Rob Walker ” Consumed – Remixed Messages ” is, to me, a perfect example of how the process of postmodernization functions. My take on this article is to ask: “Why do we moderns seem so random and un-tethered at times?”   Because we don’t know, remember, or think to ask: where did this slogan, image, and perspective come from? The definition of postmodernism postmodernism is as contested as the field it seeks to define. The Merriam-Webster dictionary has... Read more

Th great Oscar-winning actor Karl Maden died today. He is remembered for being a fine character actor.  Charles Gibson, the ABC news anchor, just quoted Malden as saying he was the only actor in Hollywood whose nose qualified him for handicapped parking. According the the IMDB, his last role was as a Catholic priest, Fr. Thomas Cavanaugh, former pastor to President Bartlett (Martin Sheen) in The West Wing episode #14, “Take this Sabbath Day” in 2000. He was called in by... Read more
