And a big thank you to pussnbootsification for uploading video from a 1988 Green concert. See also: “I’m Not at Home,” “Up All Night” and one of my very favorite songs, “I Know, I Know.” “I know, I know,” is something we say when we don’t know what else to say — when it seems there is nothing else to say. It’s an attempt at consolation when there isn’t really any consolation we can offer. “I Know, I Know” works as a song because Jeff Lescher sings it as though he might make such consolation meaningful by sheer force of will. That’s probably impossible, but it’s really something to hear him try.
