So the big family adventure coming up in May is a trip to sunny California for the “2012 Emirates Airline USA Rugby Girls’ High School National Invitational Championships.”
Pretty cool — a big honor and a big opportunity for my daughters and the rest of the undefeated DRFC Dingoes.
We’ll be in Stanford for the tournament, but we’ll also have a couple of free days out there to … well, we’re not sure what. We’ll be a short train ride/drive from San Francisco and hope to get there for some sightseeing and a meal or two.
Those who know San Francisco — what are the can’t-miss-this places we shouldn’t miss? Is there a (non-budget-busting) restaurant you could recommend?
We’ve been talking about going to Muir Woods National Monument and to visit Fisherman’s Wharf and Golden Gate Park. All of those are tourist clichés, I suppose, but we’ll be there as tourists and we’re OK with that. (Plus I already got outvoted on my suggestion of visiting Berkley to try to catch an economics lecture by Brad DeLong.)
But maybe someone with insider-y local knowledge can recommend an even cooler agenda for our visit. Maybe there’s some can’t-miss sites right there in Palo Alto.
Any suggestions?
