• Zack Hunt relays the news that relentless huckster Bob Larson is now offering to perform “exorcisms” via the Internet. For a fee, of course.

I’m astonished to hear this. I can’t believe it took Larson this long to get his shtick available online.

• “It was the best money I ever spent. … It was the best gift I ever gave myself.”

• I am shocked — shocked! — to learn of the allegations of rampant sexual impropriety among the leaders of the National Alliance. Immorality among white supremacists? If you can’t trust racists to be models of moral decorum, who can you trust?

• RIP Ralph Kiner. The Kinerisms were legendary — “Solo homers usually come with no one on base” or “The Mets have gotten their leadoff batter on only once this inning” — and it was fun to see how many permutations he could come up with in scrambling players’ names (I think I heard him say “Marv Goodberry” once). But he was also a Hall-of-Fame slugger, so he has my respect as well as my gratitude for all those summers and the many laughs (intentional or not).

• “And you are enormously [in]significant.” And in comments there, Kubrick’s Rube reminds us of the wisdom of Rabbi Simcha Bunim: “Everyone must have two pockets, with a note in each pocket, so that he or she can reach into the one or the other, depending on the need. …”

• I am shocked — shocked! — to learn of the allegations of rampant sexual impropriety among the leaders of Bob Jones University. Immorality among white supremacists?  If you can’t trust racists to be models of moral decorum, who can you trust?

• Let us not judge Doctor Science at Obsidian Wings for bravely admitting to being a fan of Teen Wolf. Let us, instead, focus on the excellent question raised in that post: “Why are there so few TV shows about college and so many about high school?” College, to me, just seems so much more interesting — more fraught with big questions and big possibilities. There’s more room for individual characters to be individual characters and to grow as individuals. College just seems better suited for dramatic storytelling, while high school seems too constrained — more appropriate for melodrama than drama. Hmm, maybe that answers Doctor Science’s question.

• Innocent people unwittingly embroiled in international schemes. I never get tired of that plot.

• I am shocked — shocked! — to learn of the allegations of rampant sexual impropriety by Christianist patriarchy advocate Bill Gothard. Immorality among male supremacists? If you can’t trust creepy cult-leaders to be models of moral decorum, who can you trust?
