Tim LaHaye and his wife Beverly, founder of Ladies Against Women, announced yesterday that they are endorsing former House Speaker Newt Gingrich for the Republican nomination for president.
Tim LaHaye has been an influential power-broker in the religious right and the Republican Party for the past 30 years — this despite the fact that he has also spent those past 30 years assuring us that Jesus was coming back any day now and that the signs and prophecies make it clear that there’s no way we’ll still be here for more than just a few years more at most.
Those who took LaHaye seriously in 1982 would have been surprised that the world was still around in 1992. Those who took LaHaye seriously in 1992 would have been surprised that the world was still around in 2002. Those who took LaHaye seriously in 2002 must be surprised that the world is still around in 2012.
And those who take Tim LaHaye seriously in 2012 must be overlooking everything he’s been saying since 1982.
Right Wing Watch has the text of LaHaye’s letter to Republican voters in South Carolina, in which he compares this election to the 1980 race, when “liberal secularists had brought our nation to the verge of maylieze [sic] and stagnation.” Thanks to himself and the late Jerry Falwell, LaHaye says, “the Moral Majority … helped elect conservative Ronald Regan and with God’s help he changed the direction of our country.”
During the last three years our nation has been led by liberal secularists who have tried their best to remove God from our public square and the elimination of the Biblical principles our founding fathers built this nation on. Their financial policies have already brought us to the brink of bankruptcy and their government policies of over regulation has prolonged our recession and will, if continued for four more years, destroy this country as we know it. Some in this government want to tell churches who they can hire or fire to run their church, which is the very thing our forefathers wanted to keep the King and his government from doing. If we do not change our leaders in the next election we will end up being like the godless socialist countries of Europe. That will so destroy our country in four years that many experts believe we will never be able to reclaim it for moral and physical sanity.
The only way to save America from this perilous European fate is by electing Newt Gingrich president in November.
That is, of course, if the Rapture doesn’t happen before then, when Jesus comes back to take away all the real, true Christians who will never die, leaving behind all the sinful Democrats and Romney supporters to suffer in the Great Tribulation.
