Back in the ’90s I was part of a community theater that needed a new roof. So we did what we had to do to raise that money: Annie, and then The King and I. Instead of just one big spring musical, we did two — both with lots of kids in the cast. (And then we double-cast some of the kids’ roles to double the number of ticket-buying parents and grand-parents.)
That worked for the theater, and here I am a few decades later looking at the leaking roof on my house and wishing this was something I could solve with “Hey everybody … let’s put on a show!”
The good news, such as it is, is that the actual hole in our roof is directly above our bathtub, so the damage when it rains is somewhat contained. That’s the hole on the left. On the right is the Paypalme image I usually use for fundraising posts (because this is a fundraising post, for the raising of funds).
Here is that Paypal link. I am also on Venmo as @George-Clark-61.
Again, I want to thank everyone who has supported my family and this blog over the years. If you’re able and inclined to provide a bit of that support at this time, I am extremely grateful.
My wife was, obviously, dismayed when she came up the stairs and saw the waterlogged insulation from our attic sagging through the drywall ceiling above the bathtub. But we also took a moment to appreciate that — hey, check it out — she’s upstairs. She walked up those stairs all by herself, which is something she can do again and does every day, almost casually, after not being able to do that for almost three years. And, yes, we are once again dealing with a big, leaking hole, but this time we just need roofers and carpenters and not a team of surgeons.
So we have grounds for gratitude, and more gratitude that we can express for the way your support carried us through those past few years.
