I have here two Facebook Posts from my friend Father Louis Merosne, who works at a church in Haiti and who just this week lived through Hurricane Matthew.

My dear friends:
Thank you for your many prayers and support before, during and after Hurricane Matthew. Communication has been very difficult since the storm hit. My phone company stopped working in the Nippes Department so I obtained a SIM card from a different company which allows minimal contact.

My parishioners, missionaries, family and friends are all safe by God’s grace! There is however MUCH loss. We had about 250 people taking refuge on our church property alone on top of the thousands that were run out of their homes in my parish jurisdiction and elsewhere in the diocese.

I no longer have a rectory. Part of my roof flew off. Water damaged every room except for a couple that are still decent.

Many of the people in Anse-à-Veau lost their homes, livestock and documents. Schools are closed. The road to the rest of the country is blocked off due to parts of it being washed away.

Will let y’all know how you can help beyond prayer soon. Many blessings!

Fr. Louis

Dear friends, it will take much to rebuild. We will have to have new roofs, plumbing, electricity, etc. the walls will have to get scraped and repainted. The ceramic tiles will be removed and replaced. New furniture will be necessary. Right now, I have my clergy and missionaries of the cathedral sleeping in offices, and temporary sites. I am on the balcony (at least it’s nice and breezy :-)) I imagine it will take over $100,000 to finish everything, but I have professionals working on more precise estimates to give you a better idea. As soon as they let me know all the numbers I will pass them along to you all. There are a couple ways you can donate now:

1. Through our non-profit by sending a check to:
Mission to the Beloved 1811 Hamilton Place Steubenville, OH 43952

2. You can still donate to my gofundme page @: gofundme.com/fatherlouis

I have videos and pictures that I would love to share but do not have enough data to do so. Be on the lookout for those soon!

Thanks for all the love and prayers!

Let’s see if we can help our brothers and sisters in Haiti with our prayers and our wallets, please!
