The Summons and the Warning

The Summons and the Warning August 10, 2016

The idea that God is a God of justice resonates deeply with me. It resonates deeply with many of us. It rings true as the sort of thing that a god should care about, as the sort of thing that makes the world a better place, as the sort of thing that the God of the Bible does in fact care about when we see that God reflected most clearly in the texts.Kimberly-Knight

Then there’s the part that we squirm about. That bit where God is not only for justice and the oppressed but is also against injustice and oppression and, at one level, oppressors.

Sometimes we see not-so-peaceful God. Sometimes we see not-so-peaceful Jesus. This Jesus is often not the Jesus we want to see, but there he is showing us a God who is better than the one of our devising.

This week on LectioCast Kimberly Knight and I talk our way through a series of passages that show us the confluence of faithfulness and justice—and the promise that God holds judgment in store for those who oppose them.

Take a listen!
