No Commentary Necessary — “Doug Wood” Edition

No Commentary Necessary — “Doug Wood” Edition July 22, 2014

The following comments are offered without irony (if not entirely without guilt):

That’s musician Doug Wood performing his own work, “Eye of the Needle.” I stumbled across his music (and unusual technique) on our local NPR station some months ago and was immediately intrigued. He’s got a few albums out there — including one called “Cellocentric,” which must be awesome with a name like that, right? — but he’s not as high-profile as one might expect from a fellow described as “one of the premier independent acoustic performers in the country.” Or as one might hope for someone as obviously talented as Doug is.

I really dig his sound. It reminds me of Kottke. …which is just about the highest compliment I can offer a folk guitar player. And which is also, apparently, not at all unique to me. The CDBaby page itself pairs them with one another, for goodness sake. *Sigh* I am nothing if not original. (His technique also reminds me of the Chapman stick, but that’s another story.)
